Promoting Flexible Working Styles

At Bosch, we are actively updating the way we work and our mindset.

Flextime

From April 2023, the core time for flextime work has been eliminated, and it is possible to freely set the start and end times of work.

Smart Work

Bosch worldwide is promoting "Smart Work" as a new way of working.
Based on a hybrid work style of on-site (face-to-face) and online, "Smart Work" is a system in which associates decide the optimal work style through discussions with team members.
In principle, there is no upper limit for remote use, and depending on the department, full remote is possible.

Shortened working hours system for associates

This system is for associates who have difficulty working full-time due to childcare, nursing care, fertility treatment, gender reassignment surgery, hormone therapy, illness or injury, or who wish to work shorter hours for self-development. This system sets the weekly working hours to at least twenty hours per week and to at least three times per week. Three days work, with four days off per week is also possible.

Work-life balance

Bosch offers a work style that emphasizes work-life balance.
- Childcare and nursing care leave: The number of men taking childcare leave is increasing. The rate of returning to work remains close to 100%.
- No overtime day: Specified day when the actual working hours per day are eight hours or less.
- Annual leave: Number of days granted exceeds legal requirements, utilization rate close to 100%.
- Multi-purpose leave: Personal injury or illness, family injury or illness, volunteer activities, etc.

Maximizing Collaboration

Bosch emphasizes interaction among associates and aims to create offices at which associates want to work.

Construction of new facilities

A new Bosch Group R&D center is scheduled to be completed in 2024. The headquarters, group companies, and functions of various business divisions (such as vehicle control, safety systems, driver assistance and automated driving, HMI, and in-vehicle software) will be brought together in the new facility, to further promote collaboration across business divisions.

Details are available here.

Company cafeteria

Cafeterias for associates are available at the Shibuya Head Office, Yokohama Office, and plant locations. Diversity menus are also offered at cafeterias during events (*excluding some offices).

Workshops and training

The head office and plants are equipped with facilities for training and workshops. Emphasis is placed on organizational development, human resource development, and independent learning.

Communication Space "The NEST"

At the Shibuya Head Office, there is a space designed in collaboration with various artists, with the aim of promoting communication and creating innovation. Various events are also held there.

Enabling Diverse Careers

Bosch supports the diverse career development of each and every associate.

Side jobs

Side jobs are permitted to the extent permitted by company regulations, except for side jobs that form employment relationships with other companies and those that violate non-competition obligations. (Notification to Bosch is required.)

Leave of absence for learning

A leave of absence for learning is possible for the period requested by the individual within the range of three months to one year (up to two years in the case of going on to graduate school).

Volunteer leave

Associates can take a leave of absence to volunteer for social welfare and relief activities, or to participate in the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Leave of absence for accompanying overseas assignments

It is possible to take a leave of absence under certain conditions when accompanying a spouse or registered partner who is a member of Bosch on an overseas assignment.

* There are certain applicable conditions for using each system, such as the period of employment at Bosch.
